Four Themed Areas
Sexuality Studies
This strand of our program brings together feminist insights regarding the interlocking nature of oppressions with studies of sexual behaviours, communities, desires, and identities. In coursework and independent research, students may investigate lesbian, gay, bisexual, queer, and/or heternormative identities and cultures as they intersect with a range of distinct but overlapping social identity markers, including age, ability, class, ethnicity, and race. Our program takes up the social organization and construction of sexuality, including institutions that constitute, shape, and govern sexuality such as law, religion, health, education, and the state. Students will also analyze sexuality in connection with discourses, communities, and movements centered around arts, literature, and popular culture; ethics; kinship; spirituality; and social justice.
